On July 6, 2020, a tragic incident unfolded in Mithuthi-ini village of Tebere ward in Kirinyaga County. Four men were brutally killed by angry villagers who suspected them of stealing goats.
According to Mwea East Deputy Police Commander Lucas Chebet, the suspects were beaten to death with machetes and other weapons. Two of the suspects managed to escape, but the others were not so lucky.
"When we were informed about the attack, we rushed to the scene and found the four already dead. They had cuts all over," Chebet said.
The bodies of the suspects were moved to the Kerugoya County Hospital mortuary, where they are yet to be identified. Chebet assured that the police are investigating the incident and will bring to book any villager who participated in the lynching.
Meanwhile, in Nyeri, a 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting his 80-year-old father and killing him. The suspect is being held at Ihururu police station.
Additionally, in Siaya, a man was arrested for being in possession of a stolen rifle that was used in a series of robberies in the area. The police also recovered 13 rounds of ammunition from the suspect.
