Published on July 6, 2020, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured teachers holding administrative positions that they will receive the last part of their phased pay increase this month.

More than 100,000 teachers will benefit from the pay hike, which will cost Sh11 billion.

According to TSC, the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) started in July 2017 and will end this financial year, setting the stage for new negotiations.

As part of the CBA, TSC has also automated its services, including the T-Pay system, which allows teachers to approve and monitor their third-party financial transactions.

However, the commission has also faced challenges due to inaccurate and misleading data provided by teachers in 2017, which led to the promotion of some teachers by mistake.

Following a recount of headteachers, their deputies, and senior teachers, TSC has ordered a review of the data to ensure accuracy.

Additionally, TSC is expected to promote a total of 100,000 teachers in Grade B5 (previously P1) who will automatically be moved to Grade C1 starting this month, with Sh7 billion set aside for the exercise.
