On July 6, 2020, Kenya's Health ministry announced a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 181 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya now stands at 8,067, with 2,414 recoveries and 164 deaths.
The ministry also reported that 127 more patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,414.
CS Kagwe noted that two of the new patients were foreigners, while 179 were Kenyans, with the youngest patient being just four months old and the oldest 79 years.
Earlier on the same day, President Uhuru Kenyatta made several key announcements related to Kenya's management of local infections.
President Kenyatta announced that the cessation of movement order in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera counties would end on July 7 at 4am, while extending the nationwide curfew by a further 30 days.
He also stated that all places of worship would commence phased reopening, with strict adherence to applicable guidelines, but noted that individuals under 13 or over 58 years would not be allowed to attend services.
Additionally, the President announced that local air travel would resume on July 15, under guidelines from the ministries of Health and Transport, while international travel would resume on August 1.
