On July 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered a probe into the escalating cases of gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies, and violation of children's rights in Kenya.

According to the President, the National Crime Research Centre (NCRC) is to investigate these cases and prepare an advisory for security agencies on remedial action within 30 days.

President Kenyatta expressed concern over the increased family disputes since March, when stringent COVID-19 containment measures were put in place.

He noted that the family is a reflection of the State, and if the family is under attack, the State is under attack.

Several incidents of murder, rape, and other violent cases have been reported across the country, with women and children being the most affected.

One of the worst incidents was reported in Naivasha, where a woman killed her four children due to frustrations after losing her job.

Another incident was reported in Kisumu, where a man survived miraculously after his wife, a police officer, shot at him twice, accusing him of giving their house-help Sh50 without consulting her.
