Coronavirus Cases in Kenya Rise to 8,067

On July 6, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that the number of coronavirus cases in Kenya had risen to 8,067 following the confirmation of 181 new cases.

According to the ministry, 2,131 samples were tested within the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative COVID-19 tests conducted so far to 191,394.

The new cases include 179 Kenyans and two foreigners, with ages ranging from four months to 79 years old. The cases are distributed across various counties, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kajiado, Machakos, Lamu, Murang'a, Uasin Gishu, and Kirinyaga.

Breakdown of the new cases by county:

  • Nairobi: 134 cases, distributed across various sub-counties.
  • Kiambu: 19 cases, with 7 in Thika, 3 in Limuru, 3 in Ruiru, 2 in Kabete, 2 in Kiambu Town, 1 in Juja, and 1 in Kikuyu.
  • Mombasa: 9 cases, with 3 in Jomvu, 2 in Kisauni, 2 in Mvita, 1 in Likoni, and 1 in Nyali.
  • Kajiado: 6 cases, with 3 in Kajiado North, 2 in Kajiado East, and 1 in Kajiado West.
  • Machakos: 6 cases, all recorded in Athi River.
  • Lamu: 3 cases, all in Lamu West.
  • Murang'a: 2 cases, both in Kiharu.
  • Uasin Gishu: 1 case, in Ainabkoi.
  • Kirinyaga: 1 case, in Mwea East.

Four patients also succumbed to the novel coronavirus in various facilities, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 164.
