Published on July 6, 2020, Optiven CEO George Wachiuri has unveiled a significant step towards green energy adoption at Amani Ridge, a high-end gated community in Kiambu, Kenya.

The new landmark, named The Fountain of Peace, is a 100% solar energy-enabled water feature situated at the entry point of the gated community.

Optiven Group, a leading real estate firm, has been at the forefront of adopting green energy in its developments. According to George Wachiuri, the CEO, this move is a statement of intent to adopt renewable energy for all amenities at Amani Ridge.

‘Going forward, developers will need to seriously consider adopting green energy to sustain the future generations and also adopt the Sustainable Development Goal Number 7 that seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all,’ says George Wachiuri.

At Amani Ridge, the adoption of solar energy is driven by the fact that Kenya has high insolation rates, with an average of 5-7 peak sunshine hours and average daily insolation of 4-6 kWh/m2.

The development will also feature water recycling technology, where each home will have a bio digester to avoid water wastage. Additionally, 10 green spaces have been set aside to make the gated community as natural as possible.

Optiven has set up a symbolism of these green energy adoptions at the entry point of the gated community, with the installation of a solar energy-enabled fountain named as The Fountain of Peace.
