On July 6, 2020, Kenya's Health Ministry announced 181 new Covid-19 cases, 127 recoveries, and four deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 8,067, recoveries to 2,414, and deaths to 164.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases included two foreigners and 179 Kenyans, with ages ranging from four months to 79 years. The distribution of cases by gender showed 123 men and 58 women.
The highest number of cases was reported in Nairobi, with 134 cases, followed by Kiambu with 19, Mombasa with nine, and Kajiado with six. Other counties with reported cases included Machakos, Lamu, Murang'a, Uasin Gishu, and Kirinyaga.
President Uhuru Kenyatta made several key announcements related to Kenya's management of local infections. He announced the end of the cessation of movement order in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera counties, effective July 7, 2020, at 4 am. However, he extended the nationwide curfew by a further 30 days.
The President also announced the phased reopening of places of worship, with strict adherence to guidelines. He noted that individuals under 13 or over 58 years should not attend services. Local air travel was set to resume on July 15, 2020, under Ministry of Health and Transport guidelines, while international travel was scheduled to resume on August 1, 2020.
