Published on July 6, 2020, Nairobi — Kenya's COVID-19 cases have reached 7,577 after 389 new infections were reported on Saturday.
The new cases were identified from a sample of 4,829 tested within a 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of samples tested since March to 185,035.
The cases include three foreigners, with 266 males and 123 females affected, ranging in age from a year-old infant to a 93-year-old.
The distribution of cases across the country is as follows: Nairobi leads with 248 cases, followed by Kajiado with 36 cases, Kiambu with 27 cases, Mombasa with 23 cases, Busia with 17 cases, Machakos with 10 cases, Migori with 9 cases, Kitui with 6 cases, Makueni with 3 cases, Uasin Gishu with 3 cases, Nakuru with 2 cases, Kilifi with 2 cases, Garissa with 1 case, Muranga with 1 case, and Narok with 1 case.
Breakdown of cases by county:
- Nairobi: Dagoretti North (55), Kibra (40), Langata (33), Ruaraka (17), Westlands (14), Embakasi East (13), Makadara (13), Roysambu (11), Embakasi South and Kasarani (8) cases each, Mathare, Starehe, Embakasi Central, and Embakasi West (7), Embakasi North (5), and Kamukunji (3).
- Kajiado: Kajiado Central (32), Kajiado East (2), and Kajiado North (2).
- Kiambu: Kiambaa (6), Kikuyu (6), and Ruiru (6), Kabete (4), Kiambu town (4), and Thika Town (1).
- Mombasa: Mvita (9), Nyali (6), Jomvu (3), Likoni (2), Kisauni (2), and Changamwe (1).
- Busia: Teso North (12) and Matayos (5).
- Machakos: Athi River (8) and Matangulu (2).
- Migori: Kuria West (9).
- Kitui: Kitui West (6).
- Makueni: Makueni (2) and Kibwezi East (1).
- Uasin Gishu: Ainabkoi (3).
- Nakuru: Nakuru East (1) and Nakuru West (1).
- Kilifi: Kaloleni (1) and Kilifi North (1).
- Garissa: Daadab (1).
- Muranga: Kihara (1).
- Narok: Narok North (1).
Additionally, the total number of recoveries rose to 2,236 after 88 additional patients were given a clean bill of health, while coronavirus-related deaths rose to 159 after 5 more patients succumbed.
