On July 4, 2020, a deadly intercommunal conflict erupted along the Makueni-Kajiado border in Kenya, leaving a trail of death and injury.

According to reports, one person was shot dead and five others injured in the clashes, which were sparked by a dispute over pasture.

The incident occurred on Saturday, with an unknown number of Morans attacking rival youths from Makueni.

The injured were rushed to Makindu Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

Makueni County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim has pointed an accusing finger at national administration officers - chiefs and their assistants - at Mashuru in Kajiado county for failure to provide timely intelligence to avert the attack.

"Investigations shall start with our chiefs and assistant chiefs," Maalim said.

Maalim has dispatched police officers from Makindu sub-county to restore peace and has vowed to work with security teams from both Makueni and Kajiado to investigate the incident and ensure perpetrators are prosecuted.
