Published on June 6, 2020, Wazito FC's head coach Stewart Hall has announced his departure from the club, barely a year after he joined to save the team from relegation.
According to a statement on the club's website, Hall will be returning to the United Kingdom to be with his family. He expressed gratitude to the players and technical team for their hard work, saying they had achieved some good results before the league was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Together with my technical team, we worked really hard, the players did their part and together we managed to get some good results. Just before the league was stopped by the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unbeaten in almost ten matches and this shows the strides we had made as a team,” Hall said.
He added, “It was an honor to work with you. I wish the club all the best for the future, I believe I have put in a good foundation to steer the team forward.”
Hall joined Wazito in November 2019, after the entire technical bench was sent packing due to poor results. Despite a slight improvement, the club struggled to impress, despite a healthy financial backing from its Dubai-based owner.
Sources intimate that Hall's departure might be linked to an apparent purge expected at the club, where several players deemed surplus to requirements are set to be laid off. The club is reportedly set to do away with a significant number of its foreign-based players, while highly paid but non-performing players will also face the exit.
Wazito CEO Dennis Gicheru has announced that the club's management will soon reveal its new technical bench members.
