On July 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the extension of a ban on political and social gatherings for a further 30 days in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus in Kenya.
The move comes as the country continues to grapple with the pandemic, with over 7,000 confirmed cases reported in the past three months.
According to the President, the restriction on the operation of bars to 'take-away' only, as well as the restrictions on the number of persons who can attend weddings and funerals, will remain in place for another 30 days.
These measures, which were initially put in place in March, have been credited with helping to contain the spread of the virus in Kenya.
As part of the ongoing efforts to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the country, the President also maintained the adjusted nationwide curfew timings, which will remain in force from 9pm to 4am for another 30 days.
