On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation on the way forward in the fight against Covid-19, announcing the phased reopening of places of worship in Kenya.

According to the President, the reopening will be done in strict conformity with guidelines issued by the Inter-Faith Council, including self-regulating guidelines.

Key guidelines include a maximum of 100 participants per worship session, which should not last more than an hour, and the exclusion of persons under 13 years or above 58 years from congregants.

Additionally, Sunday school and Madrassa will remain suspended until further notice.

These measures come after the government suspended all public gatherings, sporting events, open-air religious meetings, and large public events in April following the confirmation of the first coronavirus case in the country.

As a result, most worship places have been conducting their services through broadcast media or online.
