On July 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation, outlining a plan to re-open places of worship while adhering to strict guidelines.
The Inter-Faith Council had recommended that worship ceremonies should not exceed one hour and should not have more than 100 persons in attendance.
However, Sunday schools and Madrasa will remain suspended, and certain individuals, including those under 13 and above 58 years old, as well as those with underlying conditions, will not be allowed to attend church services.
The President also directed the Ministry of Education to notify Kenyans on the resumption of the academic calendar.
“Following consultations with stakeholders in the education sector, and cognizant of the surge in the rate of infections, the Ministry of Education shall jointly with all the stakeholders in the sector shall today, not later than tomorrow, notify the public on the resumption of the 2020 Academic Calendar for Basic Education and Tertiary Institutions,” He said.
President Uhuru emphasized that the order to re-open is given conditionally, and that the situation will be closely monitored over the next 21 days.
