On July 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation at Harambee House, announcing the extension of the daily dusk to dawn curfew for a further 30 days.

According to the President, the country had made significant progress in containing the COVID-19 virus, but certain 'irreducible minimums' had to be met before easing containment measures to revive the ailing economy.

"I order and direct that the nationwide curfew that is currently in force between the hours of 9:00 pm and 4:00 am daily, be and is hereby extended by a further 30 days," President Kenyatta said.

The President also extended the ban on social and political gatherings for a further 30 days, as well as the restriction on the number of attendees to weddings and funerals.

Additionally, the President ordered the restriction of the operation of bars to 'take-away' only, urging Kenyans to exercise cautious optimism and avoid reckless abandon.
