Manchester United has awarded Nemanja Matic a new long-term contract until the summer of 2023, a testament to his outstanding performances since football resumed in June 2020.
The Serbian midfielder's current deal was set to expire in 2021, but his exceptional displays in the Red Devils' last three matches have made him a valuable asset to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans.
With the team currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table, just two points behind Chelsea, Matic's partnership with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes has been a key factor in their success.
As reported by Sky Sports' Gianluca Di Marzio, Matic has been handed a new two-year deal, ensuring he will remain at Old Trafford until he turns 35.
On signing the new contract, Matic expressed his delight at continuing to be part of the Manchester United family, stating, 'I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club. As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour.'
He added, 'This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.'
