On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation from Harambee House, announcing the phased reopening of places of worship in Kenya.

According to the President, the reopening will follow protocols developed by the Inter-Faith Council, with a maximum of 100 participants allowed in each place of worship.

Services should not last more than one hour, and congregants must be above 13 years old and below 58 years old.

Sunday Schools and madrassas will remain suspended, and places of worship should not be opened to people with underlying health conditions.

The Inter-Faith Council will share the guidelines with all church leaders across the country.

Places of worship were closed in March due to the surging cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Several church leaders had called upon the President to reopen places of worship, stating they were ready to adhere to the measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
