On July 6, 2020, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi touched down in Malawi aboard a Presidential Jet, marking a significant moment in the country's transition of power.
As part of a high-powered delegation of state officials, Senator Moi's entourage included notable figures such as Ababu Namwamba, the Foreign Affairs CAS.
The visit is not without historical significance, as the Kanu party, led by Senator Moi, shares a long-standing association with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), the ruling party in Malawi.
According to Tiaty MP William Kamket, the new Malawi president, Lazarus Chakwera, is a family friend to Senator Moi and has a deep connection with the Kanu party.
Chakwera's relationship with Senator Moi extends beyond a casual acquaintance, with the two having maintained a close bond over the years. In fact, Chakwera visited Senator Moi at his Kabarak Home and Nairobi Hospital on multiple occasions between December last year and January this year.
During his presidential campaign, Chakwera reportedly received significant financial support from Senator Moi, who also provided him with the use of his helicopter for an extended period.
The inauguration of President Chakwera marks a new chapter in Malawi's history, and Senator Moi's presence at the event serves as a testament to the strong ties between the two countries.
