On July 6, 2020, a dramatic incident unfolded in Kisumu, Kenya, when a 35-year-old police officer allegedly shot her 28-year-old husband after a family quarrel.
The officer, based at Kisumu East Sub County Headquarters in Kassagam, had been staying with her husband at a rented house near the station.
According to a report by County Police Commander Ranson Lolmodol, the officer had returned to her rented house in Dago area armed with an AK47 rifle and threatened her husband, saying she would kill him before killing herself.
She then shot at him twice, injuring him on the right side of the head, before turning to the onlookers and shooting towards their direction.
The husband, a clinical officer at a nearby private hospital, was rushed to Kisumu County Hospital and treated before being discharged.
The couple had been together for three years and had a one-year-old son.
Mr. Lolmodol confirmed that the officer was arrested moments after midnight and is currently at Kondele Police Station, expected to be charged with attempted murder once investigations are complete.
