President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced a phased reopening of Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera counties, with the cessation of movement set to lapse at 4am on Tuesday.

Speaking on Monday afternoon at Harambee House, the president extended the nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew for 30 more days, citing the need for caution in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“By reopening Nairobi, Mombasa and Mandera we must be cognizant of the fact that we are all in danger and must have restraint,” President Kenyatta said, emphasizing the conditional nature of the reopening.

The president also urged the public to minimize unnecessary movements and delay upcountry travels, while adhering to government protocols.

He warned that if COVID-19 cases spike over the next 21 days, new measures will be enforced, including a possible lockdown.
