On July 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the lifting of the lockdown on Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Mombasa, and Mandera Counties, effective from 4 AM on Tuesday.
However, the nationwide night curfew, which was initially set to run from 9 PM to 4 AM, has been extended for a further 30 days.
According to the President, the government will closely monitor the patterns of interactions in the next 21 days and may be forced to reimpose the lockdown if there is a spike in the number of infections.
Uhuru also urged Kenyans to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel, especially to areas with high infection rates. He emphasized the importance of maintaining social distancing, washing hands regularly, and sanitizing surfaces.
Public service vehicles traveling into and out of previously locked-down regions will require clearance from the Ministry of Health before resuming services.
