On July 6, 2020, a shocking incident unfolded in Kisumu, where a female police officer, Maureen Awuor, was arrested for allegedly shooting and injuring her husband in their home.
According to reports, the couple had a domestic disagreement after Ms. Awuor accused her husband of giving their househelp Ksh.50 for lunch without consulting her.
Kisumu East sub-county Police Commander Mwenda Musyimi stated that Constable Awuor, stationed at Kasagam Police Station, shot her husband twice, once on the right side of the head and once on the ear.
Neighbors who were alerted by the gunshots attempted to intervene but were met with another shot before Ms. Awuor fled back to the police station to return her firearm.
The injured man was rushed to the Kisumu County hospital, where he received treatment and is now in stable condition.
