Malawi's President-elect Lazarus Chakwera is set to be inaugurated on July 6, 2020, in a scaled-back ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is among the 100 specially-invited guests attending the inauguration, which has been moved to a military barracks in Lilongwe.

The decision to limit the spread of the virus has seen the president call off independence celebrations, as reported by the BBC on Monday.
