At the center of the controversy are allegations that police in Nairobi are taking bribes to allow people to travel in and out of the city, despite lockdown rules.
While some have criticized Mwambia's work, many have applauded her for her dedication to investigative journalism.
Mwambia, who has worked at several prominent media houses, including KTN, K24, and Citizen TV, has produced some of the best investigative pieces in recent years, including 'Maekasisi Wabakaji', 'Murder for Profit', 'Bweta La Uhalifu', and 'Virusi Safarini'.
Responding to critics, a pseudo account tweeted, 'Journalists go through a lot to accomplish their duties so kindly respect them and their work!!.#virusisafarini.'
