On Sunday, July 5, 2020, the government distributed 5,000 face masks and 605 food stuffs to the vulnerable in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, as part of efforts to combat COVID-19.

Speaking during the distribution at the Kitale agricultural offices, Devolution and ASALs Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa emphasized the government's commitment to supporting Kenyans affected by the pandemic.

“The government has concern to those affected economically and socially by this pandemic and we will do our best to make every Kenyan join in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.

Wamalwa urged Kenyans to adhere to laid down guidelines, including wearing masks and keeping social distance, to help the government fight the coronavirus.

Trans Nzoia CEC Agriculture Mary Nzomo encouraged women to establish kitchen gardens to boost food security at the family level and supplement government support.

Kitale Municipal Chairman Martin Waliaula called on the government to open up the economy, citing the collapse of many businesses and the resulting vulnerability of their owners.

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang warned public vehicles operators that their licenses would be cancelled if they were found breaking COVID-19 regulations.

At least 600 households across the county benefited from the foodstuffs distributed over the weekend by the leaders.
