On July 5, 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha addressed a consultative meeting with principals and their representatives at the Kenya School of Government in Embu, emphasizing the importance of Covid-19 testing for teachers.

Prof Magoha stated that teachers who fail to undergo testing will not be allowed to return to work, highlighting the need for social distancing in learning institutions.

He assured the principals that the government will continue to fund public colleges, including the period when students are out of school due to Covid-19.

Prof Magoha also emphasized that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will be allowed to hold several meetings to ensure a smooth examination process.

Kenya had reported 7,886 cases of Covid-19 infections as of Sunday, and the government is working to come up with a new calendar for the education sector by mid-August.
