Published on July 6, 2020, a teaser of Anita Nderu's cooking show, 'Overdressed Cook', went viral on social media, sparking heated debates among Kenyans.

On the show, Nderu had her friends, who are members of the LGBTQ community, as guests in celebration of Pride Month.

She warned her followers that the content would be 18+ and that the episode took a tangent, saying, 'I am very pro LGBTQ and this episode has so many WHAT! moments. We were so extra!'

However, some Kenyans took to Twitter to call her out for promoting homosexuality, while others complained about the oversexualisation and objectification of the LGBTQ community.

Undeterred, Nderu later spoke up, addressing the backlash she received, saying, 'I have been told I have to address why I am being fried on Twitter. I am pro freedom of expression! Most of you chose to throw me under the bus because of being pro LGBTQ. I remain unapologetic.'

She went on to say that her show is unscripted and that she encourages her guests to be themselves, calling on netizens to live their lives to the fullest, especially during these challenging times.
