Jose Mourinho has fired back at Arsenal's ridicule of Tottenham's defeat at Sheffield United, saying 'you only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble.'

On July 5, Arsenal posted a Facebook update with the caption: 'It's not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane' after their 2-1 win over the Blades in the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, Tottenham's 3-1 loss at Bramall Lane on Thursday came just days after Arsenal's win, and Mourinho believes the Gunners' post was a sign of their own struggles.

With a run of three straight league wins, Arsenal are now four points clear of Tottenham, who face Everton on Monday.

The two sides will meet in a north London derby behind closed doors on July 12, and Mourinho is hoping to take revenge on the field.

'I think if they were top of the league or fighting for top four in a really good moment they wouldn’t enjoy the problems of others,' Mourinho said.

'You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble.'

Mourinho also downplayed the significance of Arsenal's post, suggesting that it was likely made by a low-level employee rather than a senior member of the team.

'It was probably some guy that was at home for three months working from home,' Mourinho said.

'No problem at home, but we will be waiting for them.'
