On July 6, 2020, the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) chairman, Wahome Ndegwa, addressed the media at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega, discussing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
CAF has dismissed the anti-impeachment calls by the Council of Governors (COG), with Ndegwa questioning why impeachment motions against governors have caused jitters, yet other leaders have been removed from office through the same process.
“We have had speakers, county executives, and House leaderships removed from office and nobody went crying. What is so special about governors? They must bow to the rule of law,” said the Nyandarua speaker.
Ndegwa attributed the rift between governors and MCAs to the county chiefs’ condescending approach to issues and their desire to treat the assemblies as the junior arm of the county government.
He emphasized that governors have nothing to fear if they have neither trespassed nor transgressed the law, urging them to surrender required documents and respond to assemblies’ enquiries to resolve the issues.
