Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has been asked to eliminate all on-street picking and dropping zones for Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) in the Central Business District.

The motion, tabled by Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course MCA Mwangi Njihia, pointed out that PSVs have converted walkways and parking spaces into bus stops and parking lots, leading to traffic jams and increased accidents involving pedestrians.

According to Njihia, PSVs and boda bodas are not adhering to guidelines and parking restrictions set out by the Government. He cited the example of the Nazarene University CBD campus area where PSVs plying routes 125 and 111 have taken over and are now using it as their permanent parking, picking and dropping zone.

“The PSVs should be allowed only minutes to be in the city centre just to pick and drop passengers then go to their holding zones,” Njihia told the Mohammed Badi-led NMS office.

The motion was approved by the House on Thursday last week, with a review of the parking, picking and dropping zones for PSVs also being called for. The last review was done in the year 2000.
