On July 5, 2020, the Federation of Uganda Football Association announced that Uganda had withdrawn from hosting the 2020 Africa Cup of Nations Beach soccer Championship.

The tournament was last hosted by Egypt in 2018, and Uganda was set to host the event on Lake Victoria's shoreline.

However, the country failed to meet the deadline for inspection activities and was unable to secure an alternative venue due to rising water levels.

The global Coronavirus pandemic also contributed to Uganda's withdrawal, citing uncertainties caused by the pandemic.

The Confederation of African Football will now decide on who to hand the opportunity to host the next edition of the continental event.
