On July 5, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in Rioma, Kitutu Chache South, Kisii, where a man selling sanitizer was shot dead by police.
The man was accused of selling fake sanitizer moments before his arrest, but the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
Residents claimed that the officer allegedly involved in the shooting was seen with a local businessman a few hours before the incident.
Area Chief Tom Monari reported that following the shooting, residents clashed with police in running battles to protest against the shooting.
"Police have managed to carry away the body. There is tension at the Rioma market which is along the Kisii-Homabay border," Monari stated.
Kisii County Commander Jebel Munene has been leading the operation to calm the situation.
