On July 5, 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha announced that all college tutors in Kenya would be required to undergo COVID-19 testing two weeks prior to the reopening of colleges, if they were to reopen early.

Magoha made the announcement during a consultative meeting with principals and their representatives at the Kenya School of Government in Embu.

He warned that any college that failed to comply with the testing requirement would not be allowed to reopen.

Magoha also assured the principals that the government would continue to fund public colleges, including during the period when students were out of school due to COVID-19.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to provide further guidance on the reopening of schools and colleges on the same day.
