Vietnam's First Gold-Plated Hotel Opens Its Doors

On July 5, 2020, the world's first gold-plated hotel, Dolce Hanoi Golden Lake Hotel, officially opened its doors in Vietnam.

Located in Hanoi, the hotel boasts 400 rooms, each equipped with gold-plated cutlery, toilet seats, and showerheads. The hotel's lobby and exterior are also plated in 24-carat gold, giving it a luxurious and opulent feel.

The hotel's owner, Nguyen Huu Duong, a Vietnam war veteran, has invested heavily in the project, with construction taking 11 years and a whopping $200m (KSh 21,317,920,000) to complete.

Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus lockdown, Duong was pleased to be able to open the hotel in 2020 and believes it will make money in 2021.

Guests at the hotel can enjoy a range of luxurious amenities, including a rooftop gold-plated infinity pool and gold-plated cups for their coffee. Even the exterior of the building has been covered in around a ton of gold.

Not content with a single gold hotel, Duong is planning gold-plated projects in Ho Chi Minh City and a resort in central Vietnam.

"At the moment, there is no other hotel like this in the world," Duong said in an interview.

"We want the ordinary people to the super-rich… to check-in," he added.
