On Sunday, July 5, 2020, Real Madrid took a crucial step towards winning the 2019/20 Spanish La Liga title by defeating hosts Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in a closely contested match.

Real Madrid's victory was sealed in the 73rd minute when referee awarded the team a penalty after Dani Garcia committed a foul on Marcelo inside the box. Captain Sergio Ramos stepped up to take the penalty and scored, securing the win for Los Blancos.

The win has given Real Madrid a seven-point lead with five games remaining in the season, putting them on the verge of becoming champions.

Real Madrid's victory was not an easy one, as they had to work hard to break down the Athletic Bilbao defense. The hosts had their chances, with Unai Lopez coming close to scoring in the 13th minute, but was unable to beat Courtois in goal for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos also had their chances, with Asensio directing a great pass to Karim Benzema whose shot was parried away by Unai Simon in the 20th minute.
