On Sunday, July 5, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that 309 more people had tested positive for coronavirus, raising Kenya's total COVID-19 infections to 7,886.
According to Dr. Rashid Aman, the Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), the growing number of positive cases indicates that the containment measures put in place by the national government are not being fully adhered to.
Dr. Aman attributed the increase in cases to people going about their daily activities as if it were normal times, with cases of illegal gatherings, such as house parties, reported in various counties.
He cautioned transport sector players, particularly boda boda operators in rural settings, against letting down their guards.
Dr. Aman emphasized that it is not possible to have an enforcement officer to police every person, and that individuals must take responsibility for their actions.
Of the 309 new cases, 193 were reported in Nairobi, with the majority of cases in Langata, followed by Kibra and Westlands.
