On July 5, 2020, Derrick Otim, a talented young footballer, tragically lost his life in a drowning incident in Lake Keowee, North Carolina, USA.

Otim, an English-born Ghanaian, had made a breakthrough in football at Nottingham Forest's academy and had recently graduated from Xavier University in the United States.

He had moved to the US four years ago to further his studies and was a regular starter on the pitch for the University.

His death was confirmed by his former teammate Matty Cash, who paid tribute to Otim, saying he 'always brought a smile to everyone's face.'

Nottingham Forest also released a statement, saying, 'The thoughts of everyone at the club go out to his friends and family at this tragic time.'
