COVID-19 Cases Surge in Kenya ¶
Kenya has reported 309 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 7,886. The new cases were confirmed after 4,228 samples were tested.
The cases were reported in various counties, including Nairobi (193), Kajiado (22), Kiambu (20), Mombasa (18), Makueni (17), Busia (11), Machakos (9), Nakuru (8), Nandi (3), Turkana (3), Narok (2), Kakamega (1), Nyandarua (1), and Kilifi (1).
According to the Ministry of Health, the new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases to 7,886, with 6,463,630 recoveries and 534,254 deaths worldwide.
Health Cabinet Secretary Rashid Aman warned that the surge in cases could lead to a shortage of hospital beds and an increase in deaths.
"The increase in cases means that more people will need hospitalization, and our hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed," Aman said.
He also warned that the number of deaths could increase due to the current situation.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have recovered from the virus has increased to 2,287 within 24 hours, with 51 patients being discharged and 160 others being admitted to hospitals after one patient died.
As of July 5, 2020, the global COVID-19 cases had reached 11,415,901, with 6,463,630 recoveries and 534,254 deaths.
