Published on July 5, 2020, a dispute has emerged over the upcoming Gor Mahia elections, which are now in jeopardy.

Outgoing Organising Secretary Judith 'Nyangi' Anyango has expressed her intention to challenge the elections, citing unfairness and a witch hunt.

Anyango, a diploma holder, is interested in running for the position of honorary treasurer but claims that a section of the club leadership has introduced a clause requiring all contestants to hold a degree, effectively barring her from the race.

She has vowed to lodge her complaint with the registrar of Sports on Monday and launch her reservation on the exercise through the Sports Dispute Tribunal.

'I will register my complaints with the registrar of Sports on Monday then launch my reservation on the exercise through the Sports Dispute Tribunal. They are fighting me but I’m ready to take on my detractors. The fans who are registered members are with me in this,' said Anyango.

Former Gor Mahia chairman Erastus Okul has also weighed in on the debate, advising club chairman Ambrose Rachier to step down and hand over leadership to a younger generation.

Okul, who handed the mantle to Rachier in 2009, believes that Rachier has done enough and achieved a lot at the club during his 11-year tenure.

'I am advising Rachier to leave Gor Mahia and hand leadership to a younger generation. He has won titles and stabilized the team. This notion that the club cannot survive without him is scaring people from going for the position,' Okul told Nairobi News from his home in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County.
