Kenya's total number of Covid-19 cases has risen to 7,886 after 309 more people tested positive for the virus, the Health ministry announced on July 5, 2020.
Of the new cases, seven are foreigners and the rest are Kenyans, according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman.
Dr Aman also reported that 51 people had been discharged from hospital, raising the country's total number of recoveries to 2,287.
The new infections were recorded in 37 of the 47 counties in the country, from where 4,228 samples were collected.
Majority of the cases were recorded in 10 counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Narok, Busia, Nandi, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kisumu, Turkana, and Makueni.
The country's fatality rate was 2.09 per cent as of July 5, compared to the global average of 6.7 per cent.
Dr Aman reminded the country of the deadly nature of the virus, saying individuals must adhere to basic measures to curb its spread, including regular washing of hands and maintaining social distance.
He regretted that house parties are being held and that passenger service vehicles and other service providers, especially in rural areas, have relaxed their preventive measures.
