Kenya's Covid-19 cases have reached a new high of 7,886, with 309 new cases reported on Sunday, July 5.
According to Health CAS Rashid Aman, the country is experiencing the steepest part of the infection rate curve, with the latest numbers affirming this fact.
Out of the 309 cases, 217 were male and 92 were female, with the youngest case being a 1-year-old infant and the oldest an 83-year-old man.
Additionally, 51 people were discharged from various health facilities across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,287.
However, the death toll rose to 160, with CAS Aman revealing that 1 more patient succumbed to the virus.
Speaking at the daily Covid-19 press conference, CAS Aman urged Kenyans to strictly adhere to the safety measures stipulated by the government, warning that the surge in cases could lead to a rise in critical care cases and overwhelm healthcare facilities.
"Many of our people are going on their business as if we have no pandemic. The growing number of positive cases indicate containment measures are not being adhered to," CAS Aman lamented.
He emphasized that there was no 'silver bullet' that would help stop the virus, and that the only way to mitigate the projected rise in cases was to adhere to the safety measures.
