On July 5, 2020, the German government implemented a new generalist nursing education program, which aims to provide comprehensive training for caregivers. This program is a result of the nursing profession reform law passed by the Bundestag in June 2017.
The new program, offered by the gfg Rostock, allows individuals to pursue a career in nursing with a generalist education. The first two years of training focus on generalist coaching, which includes instruction on elderly, health, and pediatric care. Trainees are then taught together with nurses and caregivers, providing a comprehensive understanding of the profession.
After completing the first two years, trainees have the option to continue their education as a nurse or a care professional. They can also choose to specialize in elderly or pediatric care. The program offers flexible switching between professions, allowing individuals to adapt to changing needs in the healthcare sector.
The benefits of this new program include no school costs, sufficient instruction allowance, and the possibility of working in other EU countries. The profession of caregiving has become increasingly important, and this program aims to provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this field.
