On July 5, 2020, officials from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Murang'a County urged the government to relocate a road block on the Chania River to Githurai in Kiambu County.

The road block, manned by General Service Unit officers, has been causing difficulties for traders and residents from Gatanga and Kandara who need to access their business premises and places of work in Thika town and its environs.

Speaking in Murang'a town, Festus Kamau Thanduru, a local official, said the road block should be relocated to give traders smooth access to Thika town.

Additionally, the officials called for the county to consider waiving land rates, single business permits, and liquor licenses for six months to cushion traders.

They also requested a reduction in parking fees.
