July 5, 2020, marks a significant milestone for Nana Gecaga, CEO of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, as she celebrates 21 years of being a recovered alcoholic.

Ms Gecaga, who has been open about the devastating effects of alcoholism on her life, expressed her gratitude to those who have supported her on her journey to sobriety.

“21 years ago today I made the biggest decision in my life which was to stop drinking. I just want to thank everyone who has been on this journey with me 21 years ago till today. Thank you for your support, encouragement and love,” she wrote on Instagram.

Ms Gecaga's journey to sobriety was not without its challenges. In a past interview, she revealed that she used to drink up to a crate of beer and a bottle of hard liquor in one sitting, which had a significant impact on her life and dreams.

Her love for alcohol had blown up some of her dreams, including her aspirations to become an athlete. However, with the support of her loved ones, Ms Gecaga was able to overcome her addiction and achieve her goals.

Many Kenyans have taken to social media to congratulate Ms Gecaga on her achievement, with some sharing their own experiences of overcoming addiction.
