On July 5, 2020, Kanye West, 43, took to Twitter to announce his bid for the US presidency, stating, 'We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.'
This declaration marks a significant shift in West's stance on politics, as he had previously expressed his intention to run for president in 2020 during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. However, in 2018, he distanced himself from politics, citing that his eyes were 'now wide open' and that he had been used to spread messages he didn't believe in.
Fast forward to 2019, West changed his mind once again, stating that he would launch a presidential campaign in 2024. During an appearance at Fast Company's Innovation Festival, he shared, 'When I run for president in 2024, we would've created so many jobs that I'm not going to run, I'm going to walk.'
It remains to be seen whether West's latest announcement will come to fruition, but one thing is certain – his presidential ambitions have been a rollercoaster ride for fans and critics alike.
