On July 5, 2020, the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) announced the suspension of the 2019-2020 Elite One league due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made after an agreement with stakeholders and upon advice from the Health ministry, with the country recording 2,954 cases of the virus at the time.

The 18-team top tier league was at the time preparing for round 29 before it was suspended, with the current table standings to be considered as final.

As a result, PWD of Bamenda was declared champions, with 47 points by round 28, one ahead of second-placed Coton Sports.

"This is good news. We have been expecting this (championship) title for 58 years today," said PWD of Bamenda President Pascal Abunde.
