On July 5, 2020, a bomb explosion at a restaurant in the southern Somali town of Baidoa killed six people, officials confirmed.
Al-Shabab, a militant group allied to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they targeted tax collectors and soldiers who were holding a meeting at the restaurant.
However, officials disputed this claim, saying that the victims were all civilians.
Separately, a suicide bomb attack close to the port of Mogadishu injured at least seven people.
According to eyewitnesses, security forces shot at a vehicle that failed to stop at a checkpoint, causing it to explode.
Two police officers and five passers-by were wounded in the attack.
"Metal debris fell all over us inside the port and we heard gunfire," a port worker recounted.
