On July 5, 2020, SportPesa, the sponsor of Simba SC, awarded the team a winning bonus of Tsh100 million (approximately Sh4.6 million) for lifting the 2020 Tanzania Premier League title.
The bonus was a promise made by SportPesa in 2017 when they signed a sponsorship deal with the team. Speaking at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam, SportPesa's Tanzania Director of Administration Tarimba Abbas said, "We are fulfilling one of the promises we made when we signed the sponsorship deal in 2017. We promised to award a Shillingi 100 million bonus to the team that wins the league title. And that team is Simba SC."
The money is expected to be a huge boost to the Simba players, who are preparing to take on bitter rivals Yanga SC in a Domestic Cup semi-final match on July 12.
Francis Kahata, a Kenyan international midfielder, joined Simba SC from Gor Mahia in June 2019 and is set to receive a salary of Sh350,000 per month until June 2021, when his contract expires.
