As of July 5, 2020, Rwanda had registered 1,042 positive coronavirus cases and had conducted 147,904 tests, with an average of 4,000 tests conducted daily.
The country's systematic containment measures have enabled it to reinstate tourism activities and allow hotels to host conferences, with the European Union Council recommending the lifting of travel restrictions alongside 14 other countries.
However, community transmissions remain a concern, particularly in the Rusizi district, where movement is still prohibited from 9pm to 5am.
According to Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, the director of Rwanda Biomedical Centre, 'We conducted several surveys in Rubavu after it had been placed under lockdown, and we did not find any more community transmissions. That is unlike Rusizi, which is still facing community transmissions.'
Despite the surge in cases, the government has resolved not to place the country under another lockdown, with President Paul Kagame chairing a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to discuss the response to the pandemic.
