On 4 July 2020, billionaire rapper Kanye West made headlines by announcing his candidacy for the US presidency in the 2020 election.

West, a long-time supporter of President Donald Trump, took to his verified Twitter account to share the news, stating, "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States," with the hashtag #2020VISION.

West's wife, Kim Kardashian, also expressed her support for her husband's bid, tweeting, "I'm so proud of my husband for standing up for what he believes in."

Elon Musk, a friend and business associate of West, also offered his support, tweeting, "You have my full support!"

West's announcement comes as a surprise, given his previous support for Trump. However, it remains to be seen whether West's bid will be taken seriously by voters.
