On Thursday, a meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta's MPs and opposition leader Raila Odinga's MPs took place, with claims of a disagreement emerging. However, ODM Chairman John Mbadi has denied these claims, stating that the disagreement was between him and National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya.
Speaking at Kiyabuya trading centre in his Suba South Constituency, Mbadi said he was not satisfied with the composition of two committees, citing concerns that some Jubilee MPs who had been incorporated into the committees would jeopardise the implementation of the BBI report.
Mbadi expressed fears that the committees' members still consisted of MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who had opposed the BBI agenda. He stated that he had told Kimunya that he didn't want to see names of MPs like Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Shollei and Baringo North MP William Cheptumo in the committees, as they opposed the BBI.
After further consultations, Kimunya eventually gave in to Mbadi's demands, and the committees' membership is set to be fine-tuned next week. Mbadi's objective is to ensure the committees are composed of MPs who can work as a team to push the BBI agenda.
